Provenance: The David W. Salter Collection consists of 47,021 items including railroad related photographs, negatives, slides, timetables/schedules, maps, posters, books including Official Guides, correspondence and model trains of various scales.

The family of the late David W. Salter donated his collections to the Southern Museum in May 2010.

Single photocopies are available for research purposes only for a nominal fee. A list of applicable fees can be found here.

Sallie Loy, Daniel Pete, Dick Hillman and volunteers processed these photographs in 2010.

Description: This series consists of steam locomotive photographs of the Gainesville Midland Railroad, Great Smoky Mountains Railway, McDonough Georgia Power Company Plant and S&A Railroad taken by Col. James Golden Bogle of Atlanta, Georgia. Photographs date 1965 – 2006. Captions are taken from the reverse side of photographs, prints and postcards and if captions are not available the archivist will give only details as seen on the front of photographs, prints and postcards.
