Letter: Civil War era Union soldier's letter by Private Charles F. Stokes, Company E, 33rd Wisconsin Infantry to his brother, sister and parents, dated July 27th, 1863 from Vicksburg, Mississippi. Private Stokes relates experiences of march from Vicksburg to Jackson, Mississippi, a battle, casualties and interesting comment on fellow comrade who had been killed in action that had apparently sent into the army by his father to attain a bounty for the family.
