Second Annual All Aboard Days A Hit
May 20, 2006
KENNESAW, GA – Over 1,200 kids, adults, and train buffs took joy rides on miniature trains at All Aboard Days hosted by the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History this May.
The second annual festival included more trains than the 2005 event, with the addition of a “trackless” train.
Passengers were thrilled to climb aboard miniature trains, the star attractions of the festival, as well as check out model railroad displays. Plus, kids bounced on the circus train moonwalk, were wowed by kids’ railroad stories, and had their faces painted by Kennesaw Mountain High School Art Club.
Hundreds of festival goers with All Aboard hand stamps were able to learn more about locomotives at the Southern Museum for ½ price admission that weekend, where they saw the traveling photography exhibit, A World Apart: 150 Years of Railroaders at Work, during its last weekend on display at the Museum.
The North Georgia Live Steamers organization provided the miniature train rides.
The Southern Museum also features an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war; as well as collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items.
A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war; and through May, a traveling exhibit featuring photographs of the people who dedicated their lives to the railroad.
