Southern Museums All Aboard Days Returns With Even More Trains
04/17/06
KENNESAW, GA – Over 2,000 kids, adults, and train buffs are expected to take a joy ride on miniature trains at a train festival called All Aboard Days hosted by the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History this May.
“Riding a miniature train is more thrilling than you can imagine – the adults enjoy it just as much as the kids,” said Jennifer Legates, Director of Education and Public Programs at the Southern Museum. “Last year’s event was so popular so we decided to bring out even more trains this year.”
Not only will this year’s festival passengers be thrilled to climb aboard miniature trains, one of which is provided by the North Georgia Live Steamers, they can also check out model railroad displays, and take a ride on a “trackless” train. Kids will hear children’s railroad stories, bounce on a circus train moonwalk, and have their faces painted by Kennesaw Mountain High School Art Club.
The train and all train-related festivities will run on Saturday, May 20, 10 AM – 5 PM and Sunday, May 21, 12 PM – 5 PM in the depot parking lot, across the street from the Museum.
This year, refreshments will be available onsite from the Kennesaw Youth Football Association. Tickets for unlimited rides and activities are $5 per person, ages 4 and up.
Everyone with an All Aboard hand stamp will receive ½ price admission to the Southern Museum for the day, where they can see the traveling photography exhibit, A World Apart: 150 Years of Railroaders at Work, during its last weekend on display at the Museum.
The Southern Museum also features an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war; as well as collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items.
