Carl and Marilyn Black to Lead Museum’s Membership Campaign

KENNESAW, GA - Automobile dealer Carl Black and his wife, Marilyn, will spearhead the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History’s new membership campaign to seek support from local businesses and individuals for the Museum’s educational programs.

“The Museum is a jewel for the city of Kennesaw, and anything I do for the Museum is worth the effort,” Carl Black said.

Black has been involved with the Smithsonian-affiliated Museum since the inception of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation in 1998 and has given generously of his time and money ever since. “I like success stories, and the Museum is one. I wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

Black and his wife will promote membership in the Museum to the community for both businesses and individuals. They have recruited Kevin Jabbari of Chastain & Associates and Michael Everhart of Southern Office Machines to assist with membership development in the north Cobb area.

“We’ve just developed a new corporate membership program so Kennesaw and Cobb business leaders can become involved in our success,” explained Museum Executive Director Jeff Drobney. “Corporate members will receive window decals, special recognition in the Museum, great discounts for employees, and reduced rates for facility rental.

“The Museum’s popular individual membership program also offers a variety of significant benefits, such as free admission to the Museum, gift shop discounts, special members-only events, and more,” he continued.

Membership dues help the Museum host exciting exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution, develop its own exhibitions, and create new family and educational programming for the community.

“Right now we’re hosting our first Smithsonian exhibition through November 23, thanks to the support of our members,” Drobney said. The exhibition, Serving Home and Community: Women of Southern Appalachia, features photographs by Barbara Beirne and was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
