A Civil War Christmas at the Southern Museum

November 21 , 2005

KENNESAW, GA – Learn how Civil War soldiers and their families back home celebrated Christmas in the 1860s at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in downtown Kennesaw.

See Christmas through the eyes of Union soldiers and discover how families decorated for the holidays in the 1860s at A Civil War Christmas, on December 10, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Inside, the Lacy Hotel will be dressed in 19th century-style decorations. Children will enjoy arts and crafts, creating their own Civil War era ornaments and hanging them on the tree throughout the day.

Living history soldiers will be encamped in front of the Museum, celebrating Christmas on the battlefield with minimum rations and warm fires.

“The 125th Ohio Volunteer Infantry will be doing weapons firing demonstrations and playing music throughout the day,” said Jennifer Legates, director of education. Weapons firing demonstrations will take place at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM.
