Fun Daily Programs Scheduled at Southern Museum

KENNESAW, Ga. – Civil War soldiers wielding blazing guns will ensure visitors have an adventure at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History this summer.

“We have planned a wide variety of interpretive programs to help bring history to life for our visitors,” explained Museum Education Director Jennifer Legates.

Programs are held on a wide range of topics, from weapons firing to Civil War music and photography, and locomotive factory worker stories to guided tours of the Museum’s exhibits. Free with Museum admission, the 20-minute programs start at the top of each hour November 26-27 and December 26-31. Typical programs might include:

After Labor Day, programs will be offered weekends in September; Saturdays in October and November, and daily from December 26 - 31. Times and programs offered are subject to change and weather permitting.

With three impressive permanent collections and a membership in the prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations Program, the Southern Museum offers a wide range of exhibits, focusing on the vital role of railroads during the Civil War; life at a turn-of-the-century locomotive factory; and, the Civil War’s exciting Great Locomotive Chase.

The Southern Museum will host Railroading in the Southeast opening over the Fourth of July weekend. The special exhibition, which will run through May 2005 includes a locomotive simulator and a hands-on section that will entertain and inform young train enthusiasts.
