FEMALE SOLDIERS AND UNION BRIGADES MARCH TO THE SOUTHERN MUSEUM
KENNESAW, GA – While most people think only men fought during the Civil War, many women also served as soldiers, spies, nurses, and even guerilla soldiers.
Learn more about these brave women from Kennesaw Historical Society Secretary Debra Kasson-Jones during her exciting lecture “Extraordinary Women of the Civil War” August 13 at 2 PM at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History.
“Some people think female soldiers are recent advancements in history, but women served on the battlefield well over a century ago,” said Jennifer Legates, Director of Education and Public Programs at the Southern Museum. “This lecture brings light to the important contributions women made during the Civil War.”
Visitors who would like to tour the Museum before or after the lecture should come in through the front entrance.
The same weekend, the Depot will be under attack in downtown Kennesaw as the 125th Ohio marches on Big Shanty. Soldiers will hold firing demonstrations on August 13 and 14, from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday and 12 PM to 5 PM on Sunday. The event is free of charge.
