LOCAL HEROES HONORED AT MUSEUM BALL

KENNESAW, GA – The Heroes and Legends Ball sponsored by The Kennesaw Museum Foundation honored local heroes & legends at the Cobb Galleria Centre on Saturday, October 23.

The late George Wray was honored for his dedicated services and contributions to the Museum. “It wasn’t uncommon for George to bring a pistol for an exhibit and spend time with the staff answering any questions they had,” said Jeff Drobney, Executive Director of the Southern Museum. “He will be remembered.”

Drobney said that another winner, Johnny Gresham, was pronounced as a Hero & Legend by helping to secure a grant “when the museum was only a dream.” Honorees Charles “Pete” McTier of the Woodruff Foundation and Fred Bentley Jr. were acclaimed heroes for their financial and promotional support of the Museum.

Over 150 guests in attendance helped raise almost $30,000 toward community educational programs and the acquisition of artifacts at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History.

“This year’s ball was most successful,” Drobney said. “Everyone enjoyed themselves and the Foundation fared quite well from the auction and ticket sales.”

Blackjack and craps were new additions to this year’s ball and were popular events. Other entertaining features of the gala were the wine raffle and live auction. Eager buyers outbid each other for a Bahama cruise from Air Tran and Sun Fun Cruises, a year’s worth of house cleaning from Prestigious Cleaning, golf foursomes, and a wine rack with various aged wines donated by the Kennesaw Museum Foundation and the Oak Barrel among many other luxury items.

O’Brien Productions provided the gaming tables and DJ and many luxury items were donated from local businesses that helped make the Heroes & Legends Ball a success.
