Celebrate the Holidays at the Southern Museum!
It’s that most wonderful time of the year when families get together. Don’t forget to entertain yours by bringing them to special holiday events at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History – where it’s more fun than history should be!
Thanksgiving: A Union Holiday?
Saturday, November 20 10 am – 4 pm
Visitors will get old time cooking tips for their yearly feast at Thanksgiing Dinner on the Battlefield & Home Front, co-sponsored by the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History and the Root House Museum. The event is FREE with admission to the Museum and you will:
- Be inspired by Southern recipes and cooking tips
- Observe a Southern family celebrating Thanksgiving by eating
ham rathern than turkey amongst other goodies
- See the Union and Confederate soldiers’ meager holiday
meals
- Learn interesting facts about the first annual national Thanksgiving, not actually celebrated until 1863!
Old Fashioned Christmas Crafts
Saturday, December 11 10 am – 4 pm
Visitors to the Museum will get a unique viewpoint of Christmas decorations at A Civil War Christmas, FREE with admission to the Museum, where you will:
- Make your own holiday crafts
- Enjoy Christmas decorations typical of the Civil War era in
the Lacy Hotel
- See how soldiers celebrated the holiday with minimal rations in front of the Museum with the 125th Ohio Volunteers
