Living History Timeline Takes Place Early October

9/24/09 (Kennesaw, GA) —The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will be hosting the annual Living History Timeline, this year at Swift Cantrell Park at 3140 Old 41 Hwy., just west of Kennesaw Elementary School, on October 10 and 11.

"This is an exciting event to engage the entire community," stated Southern Museum Lead Interpreter Harper Harris. "Not only does this program provide an accurate and educational timeline of various soldiers in history, but it’s also a fun family activity!"

Attendees will get to see military soldiers from Roman times to modern day, as well as witness weapons demonstrations and see military vehicles. Historical figures such as Georgia’s founder, James Oglethorpe, will also be present!

This event will take place on October 10 from 10 AM to 4 PM, and on October 11 from noon to 4 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages four through 12, and free for children three and under. For more information, contact 770.427.2117, ext 3176, or jpies@kennesaw-ga.gov.

SPECIAL EVENT! The Studebaker Drivers Club

Enjoy a blast through the past as the North Georgia Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club rolls through Kennesaw and makes a stop across the street from the Southern Museum on October 4! Home-schooled students of all ages can explore the Museum exhibits at a special rate! Attendees participate in guided tours, hands-on activities and make-and-take projects. SPECIAL EVENT! The Civil War in Georgia Seminar

Oct. 24 - 9 AM – 4 PM

The Civil War spun stories of heroism and tragedy that are still impacting the men and women of Georgia. This one-day seminar will examine the efforts of Georgians from the battlefield to the home front with a panel of distinguished academic authors including Tammy Harden Galloway, Kurt D. Graham, John Randolph Poole, Dr. John Fowler and Rossell Bonds. This program is made possible with generous funding by the Georgia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war.

The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under.
