October 10 , 2005

KENNESAW, GA – The City of Kennesaw’s Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History was selected as one of ten outstanding national transportation enhancement projects in 2005.

The Federal Highways Administration selected the Museum as an example model for the use of Transportation Enhancement funds. The Museum was chosen as one of only ten projects, out of hundreds from across the country, to be highlighted in a recent publication “Communities Benefit!” The publication showcases outstanding projects that demonstrate the power of the Transportation Enhancement program to catalyze positive change and economic rebirth in local communities. This publication will be distributed to communities across the country.

“It is an honor for the Museum to be recognized on the national scene as an outstanding transportation enhancement project,” said Doctor Jeff Drobney, the Executive Director of the Museum. “This award highlights the power and importance of public/private cooperative projects and the benefits they bring to communities across the United States.”

Projects from New York, California, Florida, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Maine, Indiana, North Carolina and Michigan were also selected for the publication.

The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273.  Click here for visitor information, or call (770) 427-2117.
