Southern Museum comes to life at night
12/20/06
KENNESAW, GA – Employees at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw are reporting their exhibits come to life after the museum closes in the evening.
“At first I didn’t believe the security guard when he told me about it. Then I stayed late one night and saw them for myself,” said Kennesaw Director of Recreation and Culture Jeff Drobney.
Museum workers have described seeing Civil War soldiers doing battle, and factory mannequins coming to life to build a locomotive. Some have even spotted an angry Confederate conductor looking for the Yankee spies who stole his train.
“I know people won’t believe us unless they see it for themselves, so we’re going to give them that chance during a special event January 20,” Drobney explained.
Night at the Southern Museum will be the only opportunity for the public to witness the strange phenomenon. The Museum will be open from 5 to 8 PM for visitors to explore what happens behind closed doors each evening.
Tickets for this exciting adventure are $7.50 for adults; $6.50 for senior citizens; $5.50 children four to 12; and free for children three and under.
A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war; and through May, a traveling exhibit featuring photographs of the people who dedicated their lives to the railroad.
The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273. Click here for visitor information, or call (770) 427-2117.
