Civil War Soldiers on the Loose January 12

KENNESAW, GA – Metro-Atlanta residents are being asked to be on the lookout for Civil War soldiers and other historical figures who may escape from the Southern Museum January 12.

“Our security guard claims the exhibits are coming to life after the Museum closes,” revealed Southern Museum Director of Education Jennifer Legates. “I don’t know if I believe him or not, but we need people here for Night at the Southern Museum to help him keep the exhibits under control.”

The Southern Museum will host three family events based on the popular movie, Night at the Museum, in January, culminating with the popular Night at the Southern Museum event:

Mommy & Me: Night at the Museum
January 10, 10 AM
Designed for children 3 – 5 and their parents, children will explore the Museum’s history, themes and exhibits, using the children’s book that inspired the film. Free with admission.

Night at the Southern Museum
January 12, 5 – 8 PM
Find out what happens at the Southern Museum after the sun sets. See a battle, talk with historical figures, and help the security guard keep everyone from escaping. $7.50 adults, $5.50 children 4-12; Free for children 3 and under.

Children’s History Workshop: Railroad Trestles
January 19, 10 AM
Children 7 and up will design and create their own model trestle. Advance registration required by January 11. $10 per child, $7 for Museum members

Share a Story: “Lil’ Dan the Drummer Boy”

Join us for a story about the Civil War from a drummer boy’s perspective, then act it out! For children 3 – 5 and their parents. Free with admission.

A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war; and through May, a traveling exhibit featuring photographs of the people who dedicated their lives to the railroad.
