The Southern Museum Heats Things Up Just In Time For Winter!

Believe in the magic once again during the whimsical " A Polar Express Adventure" December 13 at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw. This whirlwind adventures takes kids and their parents on an imaginative journey to the North Pole, based on the popular book and movie The Polar ExpressTM.
"Visitors to the Museum that evening will have the opportunity to participate in several activities that we have planned," stated Jennifer Legates, the director of curriculum and education initiatives at the Southern Museum. "We’re going to write letters to Santa, help the elves make toys in their workshop – all the while enjoying hot cocoa, of course!" Legates went on to say that at the end of the event, children would receive their very own jingle bell.
"A Polar Express Adventure" is December 13 from 5 PM to 9 PM. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $5.50 for children 4 – 12, and is free for Museum members and children 3 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance through December 12 by contacting the Education department at 770-427-2117 ext 3177, or e-mailing education@southernmuseum.org (Visa and MasterCard only.) Home schoolers of all ages can explore the Museum’s exhibits for a special rate. Educational programs will be offered hourly giving everyone the chance to learn more about history. See education section of www.southernmuseum.org for a schedule. Reservations not required. (Please note: The Museum does not provide group tours on Home School Days.) Special admission rates: $4 per student (4-12 years), $6 per adult, free for children 3 and under. Children’s History Workshop – Quill Pens and Berry Ink

$10 per child, $7 for Museum members
Learn how American citizens and soldiers during the Civil War corresponded by making homemade ink and writing with a "quill" pen. Reservations are not required.

A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war. Newly opened is the Jolley Education Center, an 8,000 square foot facility with hands-on activities including telegraph stations, a diesel train simulator and a replica of 19th century downtown Kennesaw.
The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under.
