The Sound of History

Kennesaw, GA – The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, in association with the Smithsonian Institution, has partnered with the Kennesaw Historical Society to host a live presentation of Civil War era music on September 11, 2004.

Local musicians Gena Hood and Robert Jones will perform songs such as “Dixie,” “Goober Peas,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

“History is usually enjoyed in books and quiet museums,” said Jennifer Legates, Director of Education at the Southern Museum. “It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity to be able to listen to history.”

The performance will take place from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Museum theater, and is free to the public. Those who wish to tour the Museum before or after the performance should enter using the front entrance.

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History houses three impressive permanent collections and is currently featuring a hands-on exhibition called Railroading in the Southeast that offers activities for both children and adults.

The Museum is 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273, Wade Green Road. For more information, visit www.southernmuseum.org or call (770) 427-2117.
