Southern Museum Archivists Publish Second Southern Railway Book
September 19, 2005
C. Pat Cates, Dick Hillman, and Sallie Loy, of the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, have documented stories of the Southern Railway through the use of over 200 images. The Southern Railway: Further Recollections is the second volume produced by the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, in cooperation with the Southern Railway Historical Association. The first volume, The Southern Railway, was published April 2004, also as a part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of Rail Series.
Highlights of The Southern Railway: Further Recollections:
- Proceeds of the book will benefit the Archives Department of the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History
- Most images featured have not been seen by the general public
- A “behind-the-scenes” look is given on several facilities of the Southern Railway
- Much of the narrative is based on materials from primary sources
- Captions have been carefully researched to be as accurate as possible
Cates is currently the Assistant Archivist, Hillman is Assistant Curator, and Loy is Archivist at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History.
