Southern Museum Announces 2005 Program Schedule
KENNESAW, GA – Step into the shoes of a Civil War soldier, learn how a steam engine works, relive the Great Locomotive Chase, or learn more about the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History’s exhibits by attending an interpretive program as part of the Museum’s 2005 tour schedule
“Our new schedule offers everything from guided tours of our exhibits to a ‘first hand’ account of the Great Locomotive Chase from one of the General’s crew members,” revealed Director of Education Jennifer Legates. “One our most popular programs ends with an exciting weapons demonstration on the front lawn,” she said.
Interpretive programs are offered once per hour, on the half hour on the following dates and times:
- Saturdays in April and May, 11:30 – 3:30
- Special programming April 2 – 3 in conjunction with the Museum’s anniversary events, 11:30 – 3:30; Sunday 1:30 – 3:30
- Daily programs during Spring Break April 4 – 8, 11:30 – 3:30
- Daily May 31 – August 12 , 11:30 – 3:30; Sundays 1:30 – 3:30
- Saturdays and Sundays August 13 – September 25 11:30 – 3:30;
- Sundays 1:30 – 3:30
- Saturdays in October 11:30 – 3:30
- November 25 – 26 11:30 – 3:30
- December 26 – 31 11:30 – 3:30; Sunday 1:30 – 3:30
The Southern Museum, a Smithsonian Institution affiliate, features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war. Currently, a hands-on exhibit called Railroading in the Southeast offers a fun family learning environment – an exhibit children will be sure to enjoy.
