Kennesaw, GA The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution will be bustling with activity August 14 - 15.
Between a lecture series by Civil War historian, Kurt Graham and a living encampment by the 125th Ohio, things are sure to get fired up.
The soldier re-enactors will encamp by the Depot during Museum hours, Saturday, 9:30 AM 5:00 PM and Sunday Noon 5:00 PM, and the living histories are free of charge.
Clouds of white smoke will define the vicinity as weapons are fired throughout the day, said Museum Director of Education Jennifer Legates.
Learn about the short-lived 4th Georgia State Brigades formation at Big Shantys Camp McDonald from expert Kurt Graham on August 14 at 2:00 PM. Georgia State Brigade at Camp McDonald, hosted by the Kennesaw Historical Society and the Southern Museum, also explores the roots of the long term animosity between Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
The lecture is free to the public and will be held in the Southern Museums conference room, which is accessible from the back entrance. Those who wish to tour the Museum before or after the lecture should enter using the front entrance.
The 10th Texas Confederate soldiers will be hot on the Yankees trails the following weekend, August 21-22.
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History houses three impressive permanent collections and is currently featuring a hands-on exhibition called Railroading in the Southeast.
