The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will host the eighth annual installment of its flagship Trains, Trains, Trains event on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28, 2018. This must-see event for families in the area will be held from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm both days.
The Kennesaw Museum Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides philanthropic and programmatic support to the Southern Museum, is pleased to announce A Night at the Southern Event in March, 2018. All monies raised during the event support the Museum’s educational programs, artifact acquisition, special events, and exhibits. A selection of silent auction items will be available for bidding.
Tee off for a great cause! Our Annual Great Locomotive Chase Golf Tournament, hosted by the Kennesaw Museum Foundation, will take place in April 2018 to raise money for the Southern Museum’s educational programs, artifact acquisition, special events, and exhibits. The event will be held at Pinetree Country Club, located in Kennesaw.

This traditional model train vendor show will feature historic Lionel and American Flyer trains for sale from years-gone-by. We will also have an interactive train layout for kids to operate in our Jolley Education Center! Whether you are new to the hobby or a dedicated collector, you will not want to miss out on this wonderful opportunity to expand your collection and immerse yourself in this nostalgic pastime!
Each year during July, the museum introduces new and exciting family-friendly activities for kids of all ages. Guests will have the opportunity to marvel at a special model train layout as well as the museums’ own layout where kids can even decorate and add their own personalized buildings! Along with other crafts and hands-on activities, guests will have the rare opportunity to board the famous General locomotive (for a small additional fee).

Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by the Smithsonian Magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket for the ticket holder and one guest.
The race follows a fast, mostly flat route through historic downtown Kennesaw and Swift-Cantrell Park and is fun for beginners and accomplished runners and walkers alike. The route is a USA Track and Field Certified course and the race is electronically timed for fast, accurate results. Traffic control is coordinated by local law enforcement. Race Day refreshments are provided for all participants. Proceeds from the race support the Kennesaw Museum Foundation.

The Southern Museum will host a seasonal event full of magical fun for families with young children on October 28, 2017, from 9:30 am to 5 pm. With a wizarding flair, kids and parents will visit different stations to discover the science behind potions (and even slime!), practice writing with quill pens and invisible ink, learn about stars and astronomy, make a candle, create and play with magical creatures, and even have a chance to design their own wand!

Explore the magical world of the Polar Express at the Southern Museum’s Polar Express Adventure event Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm! Immerse yourself in the classic story re-told throughout the museum, with vignettes highlighting the plot and interactive performers bringing the story to life! Experience the climax of the story with a theatrical performance by the British Academy of Performing arts dancers that culminates in a visit from Santa Claus. Visitors start their adventure by punching their ticket alongside the historic General locomotive and enjoy activities and crafts amidst the museum that will be transformed into a winter wonderland. The North Georgia Tinplate Trackers will join us with their winter-themed interactive model train layout.
