General Museum Tour
Enjoy a guided tour of the Smithsonian-affiliated Southern Museum with one of our knowledgeable docents. Your visit will include our three permanent exhibits: The Great Locomotive Chase (including the world famous General steam locomotive), Railroads: Lifelines of the Civil War and Glover Machine Works: Casting a New South, as well as our current traveling exhibition in the Cobb Energy Special Events Gallery (call or visit our Rotating Exhibits page for schedule). Tours also include the Second World War French Merci boxcar, a viewing of the Story of the Locomotive Chase in our theater, and time to visit our gift shop.

Self-Guided Option
Tour the Museum on your own and receive a discount of $1.00 per adult.

Bus Guides and Historic Speakers
Our knowledgeable Museum staff can adapt specific tours to accommodate your group’s interests. Cost is $75 per hour for the first hour and $50 for each additional hour.

The Southern Museum’s staff is also available to provide your adult or community group with a specialized historic lecture or program. Each program lasts approximately 45 minutes. These programs are FREE OF CHARGE to local civic, community and service groups within the greater Kennesaw geographic area during normal Museum operating hours; otherwise minor fees may apply. Please call for details.

To Make a Reservation:

  • Reservations must be made a minimum of three weeks in advance. Tours are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. It is advised to make your reservations early during fall and spring tour seasons.
  • Educational Field Trips: One teacher or chaperone is admitted free per 10 students.
  • Adult Groups: The bus driver and tour leader receive complimentary admission.
  • Groups are welcome to picnic on the Museum’s lawn with limited indoor facilities available.
